If you have read all of my trip reports for the hotel (not many), they are usually all negative posts. It is because I would only review hotels if they are bad, or special. I will not review a hotel just because I stayed there and put up a bunch of photos educating how a bathroom or a bedroom look. Unfortunately, I am in debt with two good hotels I have stayed in this year that I would like to review: Fairmont Singapore and Sheraton Denver Downtown.

For the time being, I will review the latter first.

In one sentence, I think Sheraton Downtown Denver is one of the best Sheraton in North America.

The purpose of this trip was to attend a conference in Denver, and I started to plan and book this hotel since last December. I was able to take advantage of SPG’s Best Rate Guaranteed (BRG) program, which resulted my room rate per night was only $161.19 comparing to the $249 retail or $179 at the conference hotel ( a beautiful Hyatt Regency). A lot of conference attendees are poor PhD students like me; I booked some rooms with similar rates for students who confirmed to attend this conference last-minute the opportunity to afford to come to this huge influential annual event of our field.

I arrived the hotel before noon, and I was able to score a suite upgrade as the SPG platinum member. The on-duty front office supervisor Paymon helped me to check into the hotel, and he was super patience to help me to sort out the guest names for all rooms I booked. I would use SPG Pro to book all additional rooms for my friends, but for some reason, I can never get the SPG Pro site work properly. After I had received my room card, Paymon offered me a city map and told me where the club lounge and other hotel facilities are. He also assured me that all my guests’ name is properly input into the system, so the guests will be able to check into the hotel smoothly.

The Room:

The suite is very spacious, but the decor was dated. Overall the room is in a better condition than many other Sheraton properties I have stayed this year and is very cosy and comfortable. I apologise that I did not take any photos of my room because I did not feel it was necessary and there was nothing special for me to motivate me to take any shots.

The Club Lounge:

In my opinion, this property has the best food offering for breakfast and hors d’oeuvre. In North America, you do not get free alcohol, and normally have much-limited food selection comparing to Asia Pacific properties. Sheraton Denver offered food that is appetising and fulfilling. Too bad I was unable to go to the lounge for food every day due to the busy conference schedule, but for the time I was there, I enjoyed the food greatly.

The Real Reason:

I would like to thank the front office supervisors: Paymon and Jessie. They were extremely courteous, professional and helpful. As I mentioned earlier, I booked some rooms for my fellow student conference attendees. I need to change the name in each reservation with the people who will stay in, which Paymon patiently helped me to go through each room with correct names at check-in. Later, due to some late arrival, my credit card was charged due to the ‘no show’. Once I explained my situation to Jessie, not only she modified and reinstated the rooms for my friends, she also called my credit card provider to remove the pre-authorization charged to my card. I have dealt numerous hotel receptionist, about hundred a year roughly, Paymon and Jessie were the best receptionist among them.

To conclude, if you ever need to find a place to stay in Denver, do a BRG with Sheraton Denver, and stay here. I know that Hyatt Regency is a newer building and seems way more modern than the Sheraton, but I did not regret the stay at the Sheraton Denver.
